From common fascination to the sixth sense

If I had to choose one of the four elements, it would be without hesitation «the air». This despite the fact that I am attached to the land, to nature and also happy to live in a country where «still» water abounds. Because what is true today is unfortunately never acquired. As proof, our states are starting to acquire more and more experts in sources to guarantee irrigation in certain parts of our country for the driest periods. Gold is a treasure, but water is even more so.

But the air, it is also this air that we breathe in general totally so unconsciously and nourishes us permanently. The lack of air puts our lives at risk in a few minutes. The high-speed air makes it hard and healthy.

The air capable of this magical invisible lift that fascinates as much a child with a kite, a kite surfer or a plane pilot. I always thought that these categories of people would always have the easy conversation between them. The sixth sense of the air that probably develop very good pilots is at the crossroads between this materialization of the air, the disorder that can produce turbulence and the product of aeronautical engineering.

Of course, we all know that planes are so different when it comes to lift. It is this sixth sense that makes the genius of some people like «Lew Wallick», renowned Boeing test pilot and who was his life insurance.

He managed to die on a bed rather than in a deep stall phase in a high nose cockpit as described so well «Aldo Sterone». Taming the wings become ineffective, playing patiently and courageously fins to regain the dive, chaining the right gestures to resume this lift become almost impossible by making his aircraft oscillate like a dead leaf, finally getting the nose under the horizon to regain speed. Having quickly understood that he had a slight authority at the aileron and observing that at each bank the nose of the aircraft passed a little lower.

So if it is not given to everyone to have the «sixth sense», we still have this fascination that goes without words and the admiration of aeronautical engineering.

A fascination that personally divides my being in relation to climate issues.

What do you want … the little Larousse on the page of planes it remains beautiful…
